Jojo’s eyes widened.

She looked up at the simply carved wooden building rising from the leafy bamboo forest. This must be the art dojo, she thought. Standing in the open door was a man who looked as old as the mountains. He was wearing soft grey robes.

‘Welcome,’ said The Master.

Beautifully written with lovely, large, clear illustrations. I love the way the techniques are explained with step-by-step activities and the little stories of Jojo and The Master as really fun to read!

What a beautiful book! It lives up to its name as it is a work of art in itself. Not only is it beautiful to look at but it is very informative as well. I genuinely enjoyed the ‘Zen tales’ woven throughout as they provide whimsical details to sometimes technical subject matter. This truly is a foundation book that goes through all the elements you need to embrace your inner artist. From colour, tone and hue to composition, proportion and different brush types; the lessons learned in this book can be applied to any medium that takes your fancy. As an added bonus you get treated to snapshots of the author’s own lovely artworks throughout the book. If you have been wanting to play with art for a while but haven’t been sure where to start then give this book a try. I know I am feeling inspired and am looking forward to seeing what dynamic work I can produce with the guidance of Zen and the Art of Art.
    ***** Highly recommended
